Mickaël Landreau (born May 14, 1979 in Machecoul , Loire-Atlantique ) is a former French football player who now works as a coach . No other player has made more appearances in France's premier league than the goalkeeper , who was last under contract with SC Bastia and was part of the French national team between 2001 and 2014 .

Mickaël Landreau was born in the Loire-Atlantique department (Brittany region) and played football as a child in Arthon-en-Retz and Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire ; In 1993, the goalkeeper was accepted into the FC Nantes youth sports school, which was also located near his birthplace . For Canaris , the name of this club in France, he played his first game in Division 1 as early as 1996 - when he was just 17 years old . In the next ten years he barely missed a mandatory meeting, completed his 300th league game in July 2005 and was an important support for his team in their successes at the turn of the millennium. In 1999 and 2000 he won the French Cup with FC Nantes , and in 2001 also the championship .
Landreau was particularly strong on the line, had good reflexes and a surprising cold-bloodedness in dangerous situations - qualities that have given him his reputation as a " penalty killer ", which he already proved in his very first league game (in Bastia against Bruno Moravcik ) and what even a Ronaldinho had to experience painfully in 2002 . By the end of November 2013, he had saved 18 penalties in point games alone. In addition, he mostly captured even sharp shots ( France Football called him the "man with glue on his hands"). Team captain for several years now, "Mick" had the support of his teammates and was the avowed favorite of the fans.
For years, before the end of the season, rumors had been circulating about Landreau's move to a "big" club, but he had resisted all offers. It was only at the age of 27 that he did not renew his contract, but instead left the region at the Loire estuary for the first time after 13 years with FC Nantes to guard the gate for Paris Saint-Germain from the 2006/07 season . During his last appearance as Canari in the Stade de la Beaujoire, the fans thanked him for his loyalty to the club, which has now become rare, and bid him farewell with a standing ovation. In 2009 Landreau signed a three-year contract with Lille OSC , where he injured himself so badly during the first training session ( ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee) that he had to take a break from playing for several months. Nevertheless, the goalkeeper made his 500th appearance in the top division during the 2010/11 season - on the occasion of the home game against FC Toulouse - and was only the 19th footballer in the almost 80-year-old French professional history to be included in the "500 Club " . In February 2011 he extended his contract with LOSC until 2014. His career reached another high point in May 2011 when he won the doublé (national champion and cup winner), which he said was his “most accomplished season”. Nevertheless, Landreau ended his contract with the Dogues early in December 2012 "at his own request" and signed shortly afterwards for an initial six months with the first division promoted SC Bastia . He then extended this contract by one year.
With his 602nd use in France's top league made the goalkeeper, now also team captain of the Corsicans, on December 1, 2013 As nearly 20-year-old league record of Jean-Luc Ettori one. As a gesture of mutual appreciation, the latter shot Landreau warm before the start of the game between Bastia and FC Évian Thonon Gaillard at the Stade Armand Cesari . Three days later, Landreau completed his 603rd Ligue 1 game and became the sole record holder; Of all things, this anniversary game against Corsican rivals AC Ajaccio took place in camera because the league association had condemned Bastia and Ajaccio because of previous riots to play their two clashes in the current season outside of Corsica and in front of empty ranks.
In July 2014 Mickaël Landreau, who was awarded the Étoile d'Or twice as the best Ligue 1 goalkeeper in 2003 and 2013, ended his playing career after 18 seasons with 618 appearances in the first division.

National team
Mickaël Landreau has played eleven international matches for the Équipe tricolore since June 2001 and won two international titles, namely the Confederations Cup in 2001 and again in 2003 . At the 2004 European Championship he was part of the French squad , but was not used, as was the case at the 2006 World Cup . His eleventh and last appearance in this circle took place in November 2007 against Morocco . In May 2010, Landreau was appointed to the provisional squad for the 2010 World Cup by national coach Raymond Domenech . With the necessary squad reduction, however, Domenech struck the goalkeeper again from his line-up, and the younger Cédric Carrasso , Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda were given preference. In the late summer of 2012, the new national coach Didier Deschamps surprisingly nominated Landreau for two World Cup qualifiers . As the third goalkeeper behind Lloris and Mandanda, Landreau was again regularly with the Bleus and took part - albeit again without commitment - in the World Cup finals in Brazil .

Landreau already prepared himself for the "life after" during his active time, acquired a university diploma for executives in sports organizations and achieved a master's degree in training theory. At the turn of the year 2014/2015 he completed a further training course for managers at ESCP Europe , France's oldest business school. After the end of his playing career, he also worked as a consultant for the pay TV channel Canal + . From 2015, he, who already has several coaching certificates, also completed his training as a trainer in professional football. For the 2017/18 season he took over the job of head coach at FC Lorient, who had been relegated to Ligue 2 .
