Nynäshamn is a city in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Södermanland . It is the capital of the municipality of the same name .
Nynäshamn is about sixty kilometers south of Stockholm and developed around the good seaport . The place became in 1911 Minster City (köping) and received city rights in 1946.
From Nynäshamn there are regular ferry connections to Visby on Gotland and in summer to the island of Gotska Sandön . International ferries operate to Ventspils and Liepāja in Latvia and to Gdynia in Poland . There is also a port for smaller boats, which is quite busy in summer.
A line of the Stockholm S-Bahn also ends in Nynäshamn .
During the 1912 Summer Olympics , the sailing competitions were held in the port of Nynäshamn .
