Clément Grenier (born January 7, 1991 in Annonay ) is a French football player . The central midfielder is under contract with Stade Rennes in the French Ligue 1 .

Career

society

Grenier began his career in 1997 in the U-9 of FC Annonay. With the U-9 team he reached the cup final in the Ardèche department . Through this success Olympique Lyon was made aware of Grenier by his scouts. After long discussions, he finally moved to Lyon's youth academy in July 2002.

After Grenier played in Lyon's youth department for a few years, he became aware of other top clubs in the 2007/08 season, such as Real Madrid , the English clubs Arsenal and Chelsea , and Inter Milan , all of which gave him the same style of play Kakás said. Despite the great interest of other clubs, he signed a three-year contract with his teammate Yannis Tafer , which was valid until 2011. he was pulled up into the professional squad and got jersey number 22.

Although Grenier officially belonged to the professional squad and also completed the preparation for the 2008/09 season as well as several test games in the first team, he spent most of the season in the B team, which in the fourth division, the Championnat de France Amateur , plays. There he completed 16 league games in the season and scored a single goal against RCO Agde . He also took part in the Coupe Gambardella , scored three goals in seven games and reached the semi-finals with the U-19 of Olympique, where they had to admit defeat to FC Nantes . Also in the 2009/10 season Grenier initially played in the reserve team, already in the first league game he scored his first goal of the season against the HAFC Gap . On September 26, 2009 he was in the first team's squad for the game against FC Toulouse . He made his professional debut in this game when he came on as a substitute in the 2-1 win for Bafétimbi Gomis . On the 33rd and 35th day of the 2009/10 season he came against Girondins Bordeaux and HSC Montpellier to two more league appearances.

After he came to a total of seven league appearances in the 2010/11 season, he made his breakthrough at Olympique Lyon. On December 17, 2011, Lisandro López came on in the 81st minute of the game against FC Évian Thonon Gaillard and only six minutes later saw his first red card in Ligue 1 . With Lyon he won the Coupe de France 2011/12 , in the final they beat the then fourth division US Quevilly 1-0, Quevilly surprisingly knocked the first division Olympique Marseille and Stade Rennes out of the cup in the quarter and semi-finals .

In January 2017 Grenier switched to the Italian first division club AS Roma on loan .

National team

Grenier played for all youth national teams, starting on March 13, 2007 when he made his debut in the U-16 national team against Poland. In the second leg in Saint-Aubin-lès-Elbeuf , he prepared two goals in a 5-0 win. On April 3, he scored his only goal for the U-16s in the group stage at the tournament in Montaigu against Cameroon. In the U-17 national team , Grenier quickly became a regular player and scored a goal in his first international match against Switzerland (4-0). In qualifying for the U-17 European Football Championship in 2008 , he scored a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Albania. At the Algarve Cup he helped his team to second place, in the game against Denmark he scored a brace in a 4-2 win. In the second qualifying round he scored his only goal in that qualifying round in a win against Israel. France finished the round undefeated and thus reached the finals. In the group stage, Grenier scored a goal from a free kick in the 3-3 draw against Spain. In the final they lost against the Spaniards 0: 4 and became vice European champion.

In the U-18 national team he made his debut on September 30, 2008 against Ukraine. The first time Grenier was goalless in a youth national team, he made seven international matches for the U-18s. He was nominated for the U-19 national team by coach Francis Smerecki and made his debut for the U-19s at the Sendai Cup in 2009 . His only goal came in the 3-3 draw against Greece during the Tournio de Limoges . On June 7, 2010, he was appointed to the squad for the 2010 U-19 European Football Championship . In the first group game he missed a penalty in a 4-1 victory over the Netherlands. Grenier missed the semi-finals and the final against Spain, which France won 2-1. This was the second French U-19 European title.

By winning the U-19 European Football Championship, the U-20 France qualified for the U-20 World Cup in 2011 , in which Grenier was also active. He made his debut on October 7, 2010 in a friendly against Portugal, which ended 3: 3. In this match Grenier scored the equalizing 3: 3. On February 9, 2011 scored the 1-0 lead in the 2-1 victory over England. During the 2010/11 season he completed two more U-20 internationals before being nominated on June 10, 2011 for the 21-man squad for the U-20 World Cup. On July 30, he played in the 4-1 defeat against hosts Colombia, but was only substituted on.

He has played for France's U-21 national team since June 2, 2012, when he made his debut in a 3-0 win over Latvia .

On June 5, 2013 Grenier made his senior team debut in the friendly against Uruguay .
