There he played regularly and scored eight goals in 18 games. After returning to Lorient, he made his breakthrough in the 2006/07 season and was his team's best shooter. In the summer of 2007, the attacker moved from FC Lorient to league rivals FC Toulouse . After an average first season, Gignac made the breakthrough in the 2008/09 season, scored 24 of his team's 45 goals and was top scorer in the French top division by a clear margin . With this he helped his team to fourth place in the championship. He was also awarded the Étoile d'Or as the best outfield player in Ligue 1 that season . Despite the interest of several clubs in his commitment, he extended his contract with Toulouse until June 30, 2012. In August 2010, he left Toulouse FC for Olympique Marseille . The striker signed a five-year contract with the French champions. The transfer fee was 16 million euros.

On June 18, 2015, his move to the Mexican club UANL Tigres was announced. The first division club from the Monterrey agglomeration has signed Gignac for four years; the Frenchman is said to earn a good four million euros net there every year.
