Nicolas Ouédec (born October 28, 1971 in Lorient , Morbihan Department ) is a former French football player .

The former international became French champions in 1995 with FC Nantes and top scorer in 1994 . At the end of 2004, he ended his professional career at the age of 33.

Club career

Ouédec began his career in the youth of CS Queven from his hometown Lorient . In 1986 he was discovered there by a talent scout from FC Nantes and moved to his youth.

In 1988 he made his first appearances in the B-Team of the "Les Canaries" , where he established himself as a successful goalscorer. On August 5, 1989, he made his debut under coach Miroslav Blažević in a 5-1 home win against Racing Paris for Nantes in Ligue 1 . Under coach Jean-Claude Suaudeau he became a regular player from 1991 and formed a congenial storm duo together with Patrice Loko . In 1994, together with Roger Boli and Youri Djorkaeff , he was the French top scorer with 20 goals this season. In 1995 he celebrated the championship title in Ligue 1 alongside his future national team colleagues Patrice Loko, Reynald Pedros , Claude Makélélé and Christian Karembeu . Together with Loko, he had a total of 40 who scored a total of 71 goals this season of his club and was at that time the legitimate successor of Jean-Pierre Papin in the Équipe Tricolore .

In the 1995/96 season he was injured on only 15 season appearances with four goals this season, whereupon he was not called up in the final national team of France for the 1996 European Football Championship . Since Nantes was forced to sell almost his entire successful team due to financial problems, he then moved abroad for the first time to Spain to Espanyol Barcelona .

At Espanyol, due to his elegant style of play, they were convinced that they had found an ideal striker for the high ambitions in the Primera División . In his first season he had to act mainly as a solo top, scored eight goals this season, making him the second best goalscorer behind Jordi Lardín with nine goals within the club. With the twelfth place in the table, the season was rather disappointing. With the commitment of Juan Esnáider and the change of coach to José Antonio Camacho for the following season, the system was changed to two strikers, which also allowed Ouédec to develop better.

In 1998 he moved back to France to Paris Saint-Germain as Alain Giresse's dream player for a high transfer fee . There he was to form the successful storm duo of yesteryear again together with his friend from Nantes times who suffered from depression, Patrice Loko. The club got off to a disastrous start to the season, Loko hardly got any playing time due to a permanent low in form and Ouédec also disappointed and developed into a veritable flop. With the change of coach from Giresse to Artur Jorge , who signed four new strikers with Marco Simone , Bruno Rodriguez , Mickaël Madar and Xavier Gravelaine , his time in Paris ended after half a year and twelve games without a goal.

In the spring he then moved within the league to the medium- sized company HSC Montpellier , where he continued to present himself out of shape. In the following season, the club tried again to revive the former offensive axis of the "Nantes championship team" through the commitments of Loko and Reynald Pedros, but this was due to the injury susceptibility of Pedros, who was out almost the entire season and Ouédec who only played 18 games this season with one goal, failed. Although they started the season well with victory in the UEFA Intertoto Cup , they got into the relegation battle early on. Despite a greatly improved Loko, who was able to build on better times with eight goals this season, they then rose from bottom of the table in the second division.

Ouédec then operated his return to Nantes, which was rejected by the sports management around coach Raynald Denoueix . After he did not find a new club, he stayed with Montpellier in Ligue 2 and was reintegrated into the team operation in October. By the winter break, he then scored two goals in ten games and prepared three, whereupon the club spoke out against a transfer of the player in the winter. By the end of the season, however, due to an injury, he only made three missions with one goal before his contract expired.

As a result, he moved again abroad to Belgium to RAA Louvièroise . Brought in by coach Daniel Leclercq as the player of choice , he was dismissed after poor performance at the end of the autumn season and replaced by Ariël Jacobs . Jacobs placed no value on working with Ouédec, whereupon it was agreed in February 2002 that the contract would be terminated by mutual agreement.

A short time later he signed a one-year contract with the top Chinese club Dalian Shide . In Dalian, he then developed into a crowd favorite and found his scoring danger again. He scored 10 goals in 21 games this season and was the first French to win the Chinese championship before moving to league rivals Shandong Luneng Taishan . In two seasons in Jinan he won the Chinese Cup and Supercup again before ending his playing career in 2004 for the benefit of his family.

National team

After 18 games with 11 goals for the French U-21 national team , he celebrated his debut in the Équipe Tricolore on May 29, 1994 in a 4-1 away win in the friendly against Japan .

As a result, he was part of the extended circle of the national team. During qualifying for the European Football Championship in 1996 , he lost his place in the final squad due to an injury-related weak season for FC Nantes to Mickaël Madar .

After the European Championship, he scored his only goal in a 2-0 win in a friendly against Mexico . Another international match against England followed before he was no longer considered for the national team due to poor performance at the club.
