Artur Jorge
Artur Jorge Braga Melo Teixeira , usually called Artur Jorge , (born February 13, 1946 in Porto ) is a Portuguese football coach and professional footballer until 1977. His last coaching position was at the Algerian first division club MC Algier (2014-2015).
career
As a player, Jorge was active in his native Portugal from 1960 to 1976 before ending his career in the USA in 1977. Between 1967 and 1977 he completed 16 international matches for the Portuguese national football team , in which he scored one goal. He has been working as a trainer since 1980, with a large number of well-known addresses among his stations. His greatest success was winning the 1987 European Cup with FC Porto . During the European Championships in 1996 , he coached the Swiss national team, then that of his home country for a year before coaching club teams in Spain , the Netherlands , France , Saudi Arabia , Portugal and Russia . However, after winning the French championship with Paris Saint-Germain (1994), titles were only sparsely added. In 2002 he became the Saudi Arabian champion with Al-Hilal .
On December 26, 2007, the Iranian press announced that Jorge was a candidate for the office of national coach. In January 2008, however, the management of the local football association declared that Jorge did not meet the requirements to lead the national team to the 2010 World Cup .
On December 1, 2014, after almost seven years, he took over the coaching position at the Algerian traditional club MC Algiers , which is threatened with relegation , where he signed a contract dated until 2016.
