Tamagnini Manuel Gomes Baptista , better known as Tamagnini Nené (born November 20, 1949 in Leça da Palmeira ), is a former Portuguese football player . Nené has played for Benfica as a striker throughout his career .

Career

In the club

He made his professional debut for Benfica in 1968 and stayed with the club throughout his career until 1986. At the age of 36, he retired from football.

As a player, he won ten Portuguese league titles and eight trophies with Benfica . He also played in the 1983 UEFA Cup , but Benfica failed against RSC Anderlecht (0-1 away and 1-1 at home).

In the national team

In the Portuguese national soccer team he made his debut on April 21, 1971 against Scotland (2-0). He also took part in the European Championship 1984 on June 23, 1984 and reached the semi-finals. In 66 games for Portugal , Nené scored 22 goals.

He later became a youth coach at Benfica Lisbon .
