Club teams

He started his career at Sporting Luanda in Angola before joining Sporting Lisbon at the age of 19 . There he formed the so-called “Cinco Violinos” (“Five Violins”) with Jesus Correia , Vasques , Albano and José Travassos . After twelve years with Sporting, he moved to city rivals Belenenses Lisbon in 1949 . However, he was not happy there and ended his active football career after one season to become a coach.

In 1961 he briefly took over the position of national coach, succeeding Armando Ferreira . In their first game, a qualifier for the 1962 World Cup on October 8, 1961, Portugal lost 4-2 to Luxembourg. Here was Eusébio , his debut but could not score. Two weeks later, Peyroteo and Portugal lost 2-0 to England in the final qualifying game at Wembley Stadium in London, which meant that the hosts qualified. That was also the end of his time as national coach. It was replaced by its predecessor.

National team

For the Portuguese national team he played only 20 games in his career, although there had been fewer international matches at that time. He scored 15 goals. His first international match was a 1-1 draw against Germany on April 14, 1938. His last on March 20, 1949 against Spain also ended 1-1.
