Agostinho Vieira de Oliveira (born February 5, 1947 in Póvoa de Lanhoso ), known as Agostinho Oliveira , is a former Portuguese football player and coach.
Career
Agostinho Oliveira played exclusively as a defender for Sporting Braga throughout his 17-year career as a professional footballer .
After the end of his active career, Oliveira held the post of assistant coach at the club from Braga for two years from 1983 . When national coach António Oliveira resigned as a result of the disappointing performance of the Portuguese team at the 2002 World Cup , Oliveira temporarily looked after the national team before Luiz Felipe Scolari was committed. During his tenure, Portugal achieved two wins and two draws in four games. Oliveira then took over the U-21 national team and qualified with it for the 2004 Olympic Games . When Carlos Queiroz became national coach in 2008, he made Oliveira his assistant. Since Queiroz was banned by the anti-doping agency for six months after the 2010 World Cup because of insulting officials during doping controls before the tournament, Oliveira looked after the national team at the beginning of the qualification for the Euro 2012 . After Queiroz was finally fired from the FPF in September 2010 , Oliveira also had to vacate his post. In December 2010 he returned to Sporting Braga as chief coordinator of the youth departments.
