Héctor Yazalde (born May 29, 1946 in Avellaneda , † June 18, 1997 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine football player .

Athletic career

Striker Héctor Yazalde began his professional career in 1967 at CA Independiente . With Independiente he became champion of Argentina in 1967 and 1970 . In 1970 he was also voted the first Argentine Footballer of the Year .

In 1971 he moved to Europe to join Sporting Lisbon . With Sporting he was cup winner in 1973 and champion in 1974 . In the 1973/74 season he set a European record of 46 goals in 30 league games, which existed until the end of the 1976/77 season and was outbid by the Romanian Dudu Georgescu with 47 goals. For this success, Yazalde received an automobile from a sponsor, which he sold and shared the proceeds with his teammates. In 1975 Yazalde was once again, this time with 30 goals, top scorer in Portugal.

In 1974 Yazalde was appointed to the squad of the Argentine national team for the 1974 World Cup in Germany . Here he scored two goals in the preliminary round against Haiti . Argentina was eliminated in the second final round. After the World Cup, he ended his national team career.

Yazalde played one more season for Olympique Marseille in 1976/77 before he returned to Argentina and played there until 1981 in Rosario with Newell's Old Boys . In 1981 he ended his career at the CA Huracán club in Bonaren .

During his time in Portugal, he married model and actress Maria do Carmo da Ressurreição de Deus, who has since become known as Carmen Yazalde. Héctor Yazalde died of a heart attack in Buenos Aires in 1997 . He was buried there in the Cementerio de la Chacarita cemetery.
