Ariël Jacobs (born July 25, 1953 in Vilvoorde ) is a former Belgian football player and current coach .

Career

As a player

Ariël Jacobs was mostly active as a player for smaller Belgian clubs. As a defender he played for the clubs Diegem Sport, RWD Molenbeek , KSK Halle and the then second division club KFC Diest.

As a trainer

Jacobs began his career as a youth coach at the Belgian Football Association ( Koninklijke Belgische Voetbalbond (KBVB) ). From 1999 to 2001 Jacobs was a coach at the Belgian club Racing White Daring Molenbeek , now known as FC Brussels . In 2003 Jacobs made it into the final of the Belgian Cup with the RAA La Louvière . There the opponent VV St. Truiden was defeated 3-1. In the first round of the 2003/04 UEFA Cup , they narrowly failed to Benfica Lisbon .

Jacobs left the association in June 2004 and became technical director of KRC Genk . Since the club did not achieve the ambitious goals, Jacobs was dismissed after a year. In 2006 Jacobs became the trainer of KSC Lokeren Oost-Vlaanderen . In February 2007, Jacobs Excelsior Mouscron trained . In June 2007 he became assistant to Franky Vercauteren , the coach of RSC Anderlecht at the time . After Vercauteren's dismissal, Jacobs became the club's head coach from the 2008/2009 season. Jacobs was able to celebrate winning the Belgian Cup this season . In the 2011/2012 season Anderlecht became Belgian champions under Jacobs' direction. On June 22, 2012 it was announced that Jacobs, who did not want to extend his contract with Anderlecht, was the new coach of FC Copenhagen . On August 21, 2013 he was released from the Danish club FC Copenhagen and in the 2013/14 season he was the coach of the French first division club FC Valenciennes . Since then he has been without a new job.
