Alexander Vencel (born March 2, 1967 in Bratislava , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Slovak football goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach . Vencel played 19 times for the Slovak national soccer team and twice for the Czechoslovak national soccer team .

Alexander Vencel started his professional career at Slovan Bratislava . In the 1986/87 and 1987/88 seasons, the young goalkeeper was only a substitute, he came to his first appearances in the 1988/89 season. He spent the following year at RH Cheb to do his military service there.

He then returned to Slovan Bratislava, where he was henceforth the undisputed number one goal. In 1992 Vencel won the Czechoslovak championship with Slovan . After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia and the establishment of an independent Slovak league , Slovan won the Slovak championship with Vencel in the 1993/94 goal .

In the summer of 1994 he moved to Racing Strasbourg in the French Division 1 . There, too, he helped the team win the French league cup in 1997 . In the 1998/99 season he was named the most consistent goalkeeper in the D1 by France Football . However, he was only used irregularly in the following season and moved to the then second division Le Havre AC in the summer of 2000 .

In his first season in Le Havre , Vencel was voted best division 2 player by the French Football Association . In 2002 he helped Le HAC to move up to Ligue 1 , where the team could only last a year. Vencel ended his career after the 2004/05 season.

National team

Alexander Vencel played twice for Czechoslovakia . On September 25, 1991 he was substituted on in the game against Norway in the 83rd minute for Petr Kouba . The Slovakian made his second appearance on May 27, 1992 against Poland when he came on the field for Petr Kouba in the second half.

From then on, Alexander Vencel played for the independent Slovakia, for which he played 19 international matches.

Goalkeeping coach

After his playing career, Vencel worked as a goalkeeping coach at Le Havre AC. He is currently working in the same position at Racing Strasbourg.
