Eduardo Camavinga (born November 10, 2002 in Miconge , Cabinda , Angola ) is a French - Congolese (Republic of the Congo) football player . The son of Congolese parents, who came to France as a toddler and took French citizenship at the age of 16 , has been playing for Stade Rennes since his youth and is a French U21 international .

Personal

Camavinga was born to Congolese (Republic of the Congo) parents as the third of six children in the Angolan enclave of Cabinda . When he was two years old, the family came to the French Lille . The family then moved from the north to Fougères in Brittany when Camavinga was six years old. At first he also practiced the martial art of judo , but gave it up for football. On October 31, 2019, Camavinga received French citizenship through naturalization .

Career

In the club

Camavinga started at amateur club AGL Drapeau Fougeres with the football games . In 2013 he moved to the renowned youth academy of Stade Rennes , from which later first division players such as Yoann Gourcuff , Yann M'Vila , Yacine Brahimi , Moussa Sow and Ousmane Dembélé made their way into professional football. On December 14, 2018, at the young age of 16, one month and four days, he became the youngest player to date to sign a professional contract with Rennes. He made his Ligue 1 debut on April 6, 2019 (31st matchday) when he was substituted on for M'Baye Niang in the 3-3 draw against SCO Angers in the closing stages . In the remainder of the season, coach Julien Stéphan gave him confidence and used him in six other games, four of which he has already started. At the end of the season he won the trophy with the team , but was not used in this competition.

At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, Camavinga prevailed as a regular player. The 16-year-old midfielder received wide media attention for the first time in the 2-1 home win on matchday two against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain . In this game he prepared the second goal of his team, making him the youngest player in Ligue 1 to prepare a goal. He was also named the best player in the game. On December 15 (18th matchday) he scored the decisive goal for the 1-0 away win against Olympique Lyon . He was used in 25 league games this season, in which he scored one goal and two assists.

National team

After Camavinga received French citizenship by naturalization at the end of October 2019 , he made his debut in a qualifying match for the U21 European Championship 2021 against Georgia in the French U21 national team in November 2019 , leaving him behind M'Baye at the age of 17 years and 5 days Niang (16 years, 8 months, 14 days) became the second youngest French U21 international to date.

Camavinga could also play for the Republic of the Congo Football Association and the Angolan Football Association . A change of association is possible up to a competitive match in the French senior team .
