Ikechukwu Ibrahim "Ike" Shorunmu (born October 16, 1967 in Lagos ) is a former soccer goalkeeper from Nigeria . He was the goalkeeper for the Nigerian team at the 2002 World Cup .

Club career

Shorunmu played for various clubs in his Nigerian homeland; In 1996 he went to Switzerland, where he played for FC Zurich . In addition to 87 league games, Shorunmu also played two UEFA Cup games . After three years in the National League A , Beşiktaş Istanbul brought him to the Süperlig , but he could not prevail against the Turks. He first went back to Switzerland for FC Luzern and then played for Samsunspor for three years . After a brief interlude with the Young Fellows Juventus in Zurich, he became the goalkeeping coach of the Nigerian national team.

National team

Under coach Clemens Westerhof , Shorunmu was accepted into the Nigerian national team in 1992. He played for his home country in the 1994 , 1998 and 2002 World Cup qualifiers . In Japan and Korea he was a member of the Super Eagles squad and was used in two of the three games.
