Chukwudi Odiah or Chidi Odiah (born December 17, 1983 in Port Harcourt ) is a Nigerian football player .

Career

Odiah played for Eagle Cement (now Dolphins FC ) in his hometown of Port Harcourt until 1999 as a teenager . At the turn of the year he went to Julius Berger FC in Lagos for half a year , which won the championship in the Premier League this season .

At the age of just sixteen, he then left Nigeria and went to the Republic of Moldova , where he played for the series champion Sheriff Tiraspol for four years . In the 2003/04 season, however, he was only used twice, so that he moved to Russia to CSKA Moscow . The right full-back was immediately a regular player there and was also interesting for the Nigerian national soccer team , in which he made his debut on September 5, 2004.

Two very successful years with the Russian capital club followed, and in 2005 he not only won the Russian championship with the club, but also won the UEFA Cup. Then he suffered from injury and for two years he fought to return to the regular formation, which he only succeeded in 2008. Even in the national team, he was not fixed in his position, although he played regularly. In qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup , the Nigeria missed ultimately, Chidi Odiah came seven times used four years later he played only five times and only the injury-related failure of the second full-back Yusuf Mohammed secured his place in the squad of Africans for Soccer World Cup 2010 in South Africa .
