The Julius Berger Football Club is a Nigerian football team based in Lagos .

history

The team, founded in 1975, is owned by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC , a construction company belonging to the Bilfinger Berger Group. This is managed by Bilfinger Berger as a minority stake. Between 1991 and 2002 the club won the championship and the cup of Nigeria twice.

Julius Berger FC also represented Nigeria in various international competitions organized by the African continental association CAF . In 1995 and 2003 the club reached the final of the African Cup Winners' Cup .

Players such as Jonathan Akpoborie , Emmanuel Amuneke , Taribo West and Sunday Oliseh played in the club , who were also able to assert themselves in Germany and at other European clubs.

After the Julius Berger company significantly reduced the club's funding, the football team began to decline, resulting in relegation from the Nigerian Premier League in 2006. Since then, the club has played in Division 1.

"The Bridge Boys", as the club is also called, usually play their home games at Onikan Stadium , which has a capacity of 5,000 spectators. On December 22, 2012, due to financial problems, it was announced that the Nigeria National League would be leaving. Whether and how the club will continue is still unclear.
