Onyekachi Apam (born December 30, 1986 in Aba ) is a Nigerian football player . Since 2010 he has been playing for the French first division club Stade Rennes .

Club career

Onyekachi Apam played in his youth for Rangers International , one of the most famous clubs in his home country Nigeria. In early 2006 he moved to Europe on loan to the French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice . For the 2007/08 season, the French finally signed the defender. In July 2010, the defender moved to league rivals Stade Rennes , succeeding Frédéric Antonetti , who had made him a regular at Nice. It was not until a year and a half later that Apam, who had been out with a knee injury for a long time, was able to make his debut for his new club. Until the end of the season he formed the central defender duo together with Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik , replacing Mangane's squad that had been set up until then .

National team

In 2008 , at the age of 21, he made his first international match for the Nigerian national soccer team at the African Cup of Nations. He was also part of his country's squad at the 2008 Summer Olympics . There he won the silver medal with Nigeria. At the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola, Apam and his team failed in the semi-finals against Ghana .
