Bayelsa United is a Nigerian football club from Yenagoa . The club plays its home games either in the Yenagoa Township Stadium . So far, Bayelsa United has won the Nigerian Premier League once .

history

The association was founded in 2000. The club won the regional cup the following year. In the final they beat Admiralty FC Bayelsa 2-0. For the 2003 season, the team was second class. In Group B of Professional Division One , the team finished third and thus only just missed promotion. The following year, under a new mode, it only reached tenth place. In the 2005 season, second place behind Ocean Boys was enough to become first class.

In 2006 Bayelsa was drawn into Group A. By reaching fifth place, relegation was ensured. In the following season, the same placement succeeded in Group B. After the league mode was adapted to European conditions in the summer of 2007, the club now played in a single-track league that lasts from September 2007 to May 2008. They finished second in the table with 63 points, just one point less than master Kano Pillars . In 2008/09 the team scored 70 points and was able to celebrate their first championship title after the end of the season.

A season after their first league title, Bayelsa United finished only 18th in the Nigerian Premier League and relegated to the Nigeria National League . In 2015 they were relegated from the first division and have not been able to get promoted again to this day.
