Soccer World Cup 2010 / Paraguay
qualification
The team qualified for the World Cup in South Africa through the qualifying games of the South American football association CONMEBOL .
All ten teams that belonged to the South American association CONMEBOL played against each other in a single group stage with a home and away leg, with a total of 18 matches. The four best-placed teams qualified directly for the finals of the 2010 World Cup, with the fifth-placed team competing against the fourth-placed team from the CONCACAF qualification for a final place. Paraguay rose as third in the group directly to the finals.

In the preliminary round of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Paraguayan national team met in Group F against the reigning world champions Italy , New Zealand and Slovakia . After Paraguay wrested a draw from group favorites Italy in their first game and then defeated the Slovaks, the draw in their third game against New Zealand was enough for them to advance safely. Thanks to the other results of the group, the 5 points were even enough to win the group.
