Jonathan Santana Ghere (born October 19, 1981 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is an Argentine- Paraguayan football player .
Life
society
Santana started his career in 1998 in the Argentine third division at CA San Telmo, from whose youth team he comes. After a year at the second division club Almagro , he moved in the summer of 2001 in Primera División to CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . With the capital club he won the Copa Mercosur in the same year . But since he could not assert himself in the team and was only used three times in the league in the first year, he was loaned to the lower class neighboring club CA Nueva Chicago , where he became a regular. After his return in the summer of 2003, he also became a fixture in central midfield at San Lorenzo. In summer 2005 he moved again within Buenos Aires to the Argentine top club River Plate .
After a year there, Santana left Argentina and went to Europe for the 2006/07 season to the German first division club VfL Wolfsburg . The change came about due to a cooperation agreement between the two clubs that has existed since 2004. In the first two years, the Argentine played regularly in the Bundesliga, but was unable to assert himself as a regular player. He came to 28 missions there in two years, of which he only played 16. After a similar course of the season appeared in the third year, he switched back to his native CA San Lorenzo on loan during the winter break of the 2008/2009 season.
Santana moved to Turkey for Kayserispor in the 2010/11 season . After one and a half years in Turkey, he moved to Club Libertad in his home country Paraguay until the end of the 2012 season. He then returned to his home country Argentina, for a year with Independiente Avellaneda , since 2013 he has played with Belgrano Córdoba .
National team
In June 2007, Santana, whose mother is from Paraguay , took on both Argentine and Paraguayan citizenship in order to play for the Paraguayan national team , for which he played at the 2007 Copa America . Santana was also appointed to the final squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, in which he was only used sporadically. Santana was eliminated with Paraguay in the quarterfinals. Paraguay could only be defeated 1-0 by eventual world champions Spain after both sides had missed a penalty from the game.
