Carlos Bonet Cáceres (born October 2, 1977 in Lambaré ) is a former Paraguayan football player .
He completed 79 international matches for the Paraguayan national soccer team and took part in three soccer world championships .
Club career
Bonet began his professional career in Paraguay in 1997 with Sol de América from the capital Asunción . From 1998 to 2002, four years of apprenticeship followed in the Argentine second division with Atlético de Rafaela . His big breakthrough came when he returned home in 2002. With the Paraguayan top club Libertad Asunción , the midfielder was champion four times in six seasons. In mid-2007, the Mexican first division club CD Cruz Azul signed him . There he secured a regular place and stayed for two years before returning to Paraguay in mid-2009 and joining the Olimpia club. After a year he moved back to Libertad. There he was able to win the championship again in 2010 and 2012. In mid-2012 he was hired by league competitor Cerro Porteño , where he became Paraguayan champion three more times in the following years. In the 2016 season he was used less often and moved to Deportivo Capiatá at the beginning of 2017 , six months later he moved on to Club Nacional . In mid-2018 he returned to Capiatá, where he played the last games of his career at the end of the year. During his career, Bonet was Paraguayan champion eight times .
National team
Carlos Bonet also made his breakthrough in the Paraguayan national team in 2002. He only joined the team in preparation for the 2002 World Cup in Asia, but made his first World Cup appearance in the round of 16. He was also in the squad at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and 2010 in South Africa. In the three tournaments, Bonet played a total of six games. He also took part in the 2007 Copa America .
Overall, Bonet played 79 games for his country from 2002 to 2013 and scored one goal.
