Organizer Mexico was lucky in the group draw and prevailed as the winner of Group B ahead of Paraguay and the disappointing Belgians and the respectable team from Iraq. What was noticeable in this group was the toughness brought into play by all teams, which rarely allowed high-quality games. The most interesting match took place between Belgium and Paraguay (2-2). Even the Belgians were able to qualify for the round of 16 as one of the best third party in the group.
