Although Brazil remained the winners of Group D without conceding, the successes over Spain (1-0) and above all against Algeria (1-0) and Northern Ireland (3-0) were playfully unconvincing. Spain also defeated Northern Ireland (2: 1) as runners-up in the group, but won against declining Algerians more clearly (3: 0). Algeria and Northern Ireland drew 1-1 in a weak game and were eliminated.
