Eloy José Olaya Prendes (born July 10, 1964 in Gijón ) is a former Spanish football player .
Career
society
Eloy played for Sporting Gijón when he was young . On November 28, 1979, at the age of only 15, he made his professional debut in a cup game against CD Turón . His first use in the Primera División was on November 10, 1982 against CA Osasuna .
In the 1983/84 season Eloy was already a regular and henceforth an indispensable part of the Asturian team , which subsequently qualified twice for the UEFA Cup . During this time, the Spaniard was also appointed to the national team for the first time.
Courted by some major clubs, Eloy moved to Valencia CF before the 1988/89 season . Here the Spaniard was runner-up in 1990 and qualified four more times for the UEFA Cup. During the 1993/94 season , Eloy lost his regular place.
Due to the unsatisfactory situation, Eloy returned to Sporting Gijón in 1995 . Here he was again a regular player in the 1995/96 season and celebrated relegation at the end of the season. In the following season, however, the Spaniard lost his regular place again. He then left the club during the winter break for Extremadura and signed a contract with the second division CD Badajoz . Here he ended his career after a year and a half.
National team
Eloy went through the youth national teams of Spain. His debut in the senior national team took place on November 20, 1985 as part of a goalless international match against Austria . In 1986 he participated with Spain in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico . In the quarter-finals against Belgium he missed decisively on penalties, after which Spain was eliminated. In the same year Eloy won the final of the European Championship against Italy with the U-21 selection . Two years later he played with the senior national team in the 1988 European Championship in Germany .
