Karim Maroc ( Arabic كريم ماروك; * March 5, 1958 in Tonnay-Charente , France ) is a former Algerian soccer player . He completed 15 games for the Algerian national team .

Club career

Maroc grew up in the Charente-Maritime department in western France and began his career at a club from Saintes . In 1976 he moved to the first division club Olympique Lyon , where he had great competition with players like Serge Chiesa . He was able to establish himself on the left wing in his third season and did not see much chance in this position. He was then loaned to Angers for the following season , where he had an extremely successful season. After returning to Lyon, he found his place primarily on the bench but still scored nine goals. In 1981 he decided to change and found a new employer at Tours FC . In a team with Delio Onnis he scored ten goals there in the first season, which is his personal record. Nevertheless, he left Tours afterwards and moved to Stade Brest in 1982 . After three years, his contract was not extended, whereupon Maroc found a new employer in second division HSC Montpellier . After a year in Montpellier, he moved to the Spanish second division CD Logroñés , with whom he achieved promotion a year later. But Maroc moved to his home country Algeria, where he played for MC Oran from 1987 . In 1988 and 1992 he won the Algerian championship with his club, in 1989 he was in the final of the CAF Champions League , where the team failed to Raja Casablanca from Morocco. In 1992 he ended his career. He made a total of 217 top division appearances (42 goals) in France.

National team

Maroc made his debut for Algeria in 1982 when he played against Peru in a friendly on April 25 . For the 1982 World Cup squad he was also taken into account, but not used. Also due to the Gijón non-aggression pact , Algeria was eliminated after the preliminary round. After that, Maroc did not play for his home country for a long time, it was not until 1985 that he was used again. On February 25, 1986, he scored his first of two international goals against Mozambique . He played twice at the World Cup in the same year . His second World Cup appearance against Mexico was also his last for the Algerian team. In addition to his 15 official internationals, which he played, there are seven more unofficial appearances.
