Víctor Javier Cáceres Centurión (born March 25, 1985 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan football player who plays for al-Rayyan SC .
The defensive midfielder with a strong header is valued in his club and the Paraguayan national team primarily for his strength in tackles and commitment.
His brother Marcos Cáceres is also a Paraguayan international and currently plays for Racing Club Avellaneda .
Club career
At the age of 18, Cáceres moved from Atlántida SC to Club Libertad , a club from his hometown of Asunción. At Club Libertad he made his professional debut at the age of 21 under his current national coach Gerardo Martino . On July 22, 2006, Cáceres scored his first league goal in a 1-0 win against Club Atlético 3 de Febrero . With Club Libertad he was Paraguayan champion in 2006 and reached the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores , in which they lost to SC Internacional .
A year later he was the player of the day in the final second leg of the Paraguayan championship. In the 2-0 game against Sportivo Luqueño , Cáceres headed his team to the championship with two hits.
After the Apertura and Clausura mode was introduced in Paraguay in 2008, Cáceres was able to secure the Paraguayan championship twice in 2008. The undisputed regular player had his previous record of five goals in 33 games this year. Cáceres was also set in the following year, but with his club had to be content with the runner-up in both the Apertura and the Clausura this year.
For the 2012/13 season he moved to the Brazilian first division club Flamengo Rio de Janeiro on a free transfer .
National team career
Cáceres played on June 5, 2007 for the first time for the Paraguayan national team in the friendly against Mexico .
In 2007 he was on the provisional squad for the 2007 Copa America , but was later deleted.
In qualifying for the World Cup , he played 13 of 18 games for Paraguay. When Paraguay beat Brazil 2-0 on matchday six of qualifying , where he came on in the 51st minute.
