Career

society

Villar began his professional career under coach Ever Hugo Almeida at Club Sol de América , where he made his debut in 1996. After five seasons he was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the country and moved to Libertad Asunción , where he won the league title in 2002 and 2003. From 2004 to 2008 Justo Villar played for the Argentine club Newell's Old Boys . Here he became one of the best players in the Apertura tournament in 2004 and only had to reach eleven times in 19 matches, which meant that his club won a national title again for the first time after a twelve-year lean period. In the same year he was voted Paraguayan Footballer of the Year . Villar became the idol of Newell's fans and played his way deeper into the hearts of viewers over the next four years.

For the 2008/09 season he went to Europe for the Spanish first division club Real Valladolid . In the summer of 2011, the 34-year-old Villar's contract with Valladolid was terminated. He then moved to the Argentine first division club Estudiantes de La Plata . After a six-month engagement at Club Nacional in his home country Paraguay in 2013, he played for the Chilean club CSD Colo-Colo from 2013 to 2017 . With the club from the capital Santiago de Chile , Villar won the Clausura in 2014 , the Apertura in 2015 and the national cup in 2016. For the last two seasons of his career, Villar was again under contract with Club Nacional, but without coming back to the league. In 2018 he ended his career.

National team

His national team career he began on March 3, 1999 in the game against Guatemala. After the 2002 FIFA World Cup had taken yet as the second goalkeeper, he was for the 2006 World Cup nominated as number one in the Paraguayan goal. In the first game against England, however, he injured himself after eight minutes and was substituted for Aldo Bobadilla , who replaced him until Paraguay was eliminated from the tournament. He qualified with Paraguay for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. Villar was in 17 of the 18 qualifying encounters in the Paraguayan goal and had to accept just twelve goals in that time. He was also in goal at the World Cup finals and reached the quarter-finals with his team, where they were narrowly defeated by the Spaniards.

At the Copa América 2011 in Argentina Villar reached the final with his team, which was lost 3-0 to the Uruguayan national soccer team . Paraguay couldn't win a single game in regular time in the entire tournament. Overall, Villar took part with Paraguay from 1999 to 2016 in all seven Copa América of this period.

Villar played his last game for the national team in 2018 at the age of 40. With 120 international matches, he is behind Paulo da Silva (150) the player with the second most appearances for Paraguay (as of the end of 2019).

After the active career
