Aldo Antonio Bobadilla Ávalos (born April 20, 1976 in Pedro Juan Caballero ) is a former Paraguayan football player and current coach . He took the Paraguayan national team at the FIFA World Cup in part in 2006 and of 2010.

Player career

The 1.92 m tall goalkeeper began his career in 1997 with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay and moved to Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata in Argentina in 2005 . In 2006 he returned to Paraguay and played for Libertad Asuncion . For the 2006/07 season, Bobadilla was signed by the Argentinian champions Boca Juniors from Buenos Aires , only to move to Independiente Medellín in Colombia a year later . After another three years, he was signed by SC Corinthians from São Paulo for the 2010/2011 season . There he was not used and returned to Paraguay in early 2011, where he joined the Olimpia Club . At the end of the season he ended his career.

Bobadilla was four times Paraguayan and one Colombian champion in the course of his career. In 2007 he was also able to win the South American continental competition Copa Libertadores with the Boca Juniors .

National team

His national team career began in 1999 with an international match against Guatemala. For the 2006 World Cup , he was appointed goalkeeper number two in Paraguay's squad. Regular goalkeeper Justo Villar was injured after a few minutes in the first World Cup game, so that, contrary to expectations, Bobadilla was used. In the three preliminary round games he only had to accept one goal, but retired with Paraguay as third group behind England and Sweden .

In 2007, Bobadilla took part in a Copa America for the only time . Again he had to replace the injured Villar from the second group game. In the quarter-final against Mexico he was sent off after a foul in the third minute, so that the third goalkeeper Joel Zayas had to be substituted on. The game was lost 0: 6.

Also in 2010 Bobadilla took part in the World Cup in South Africa . With the quarter-finals, Paraguay's best performance at a world championship, this time as goalkeeper number three, however, he was not used. After the World Cup, he was no longer a member of the national team. He made a total of 18 international matches.

Coaching career

After his active career, Bobadilla worked as a coach at various clubs in Paraguay. Since 2019 he has been coaching his former club Independiente Medellín from Colombia.
