Career
The son of Eugenio Morel - a Paraguayan national player who grew up in Argentina and who won the South American Cup of National Teams , the Copa America in 1979 - began playing football in 1995 in the youth team of the top Bonaren club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro .
From 1998 to 2004, Morel, who was mainly positioned as a left defender or central defender, played in the fighting team of the club with which he won the 2001 Argentine Championship Clausura and the Copa Mercosur . In 2002 he won the first successor competition of Mercosur, the Copa Sudamericana, with San Lorenzo . In 1999 he also made his debut in the Paraguayan national soccer team .
In mid-2004 Morel moved to Boca Juniors , with whom he succeeded at the Copa Sudamericana that same year. 2005 also saw the only successful title defense in this competition so far. In 2005, 2006 and 2007 he also won one of the Argentine semi-series championships with the Boca Juniors. The highlight, however, was winning the Copa Libertadores in 2007 with two clear victories in the finals against the Brazilian club Gremio Porto Alegre .
In 2007 he took part with the national team at the Copa America in Venezuela , which was ranked sixth there statistically. As a 32-year-old, he took part in a soccer World Cup for the first time in 2010 and was part of the regular line-up of Paraguay in South Africa .
In 2008 he was named Paraguayan Footballer of the Year .
After his contract with Boca Juniors expired, Morel moved to Deportivo La Coruña in August 2010 for free in the Spanish Primera División . He signed a two-year contract. After two years in Spain, he returned to Argentina in 2012, where he played for CA Independiente until 2014 . At the end of the 2012/13 season he was relegated with his team from the Primera División. In 2014 he moved to Club Sol de América in Paraguay, where he ended his career at the end of the year.
