Eugenio Morel

Eugenio Félix Morel Bogado (born February 2, 1950 in Asunción , Paraguay ) is a former Paraguayan football player. At club level, he played in Argentina with Racing Club and CA San Lorenzo de Almagro , and in Paraguay with Club Libertad and Club Cerro Porteño . The career highlight of the player, who was mainly playing on the left wing, was his victory with the national team at the Copa America in 1979 .

When Eugenio Morel was seven years old, his parents moved with him from the Paraguayan capital Asunción to the capital of the richer neighboring country Argentina, Buenos Aires .

He made his first contact with big football in 1969 when he joined the top club Racing Club in the industrial suburb of Avellaneda . In 1970 he made his debut in the club's combat team. In the following years he played from 1972 with CA Talleres (Remedios de Escalada) , from 1974 to 1979 with Club Libertad in his native Asunción. From 1980 to 1981 he played again in Buenos Aires with the Argentinos Juniors where he was runner-up in his first year. In 1982 he played with CA San Lorenzo de Almagro , 1983 again in Asunción with Club Cerro Porteño and 1984 in Bolivia with the Oriente Petrolero club .

Overall, Eugenio Morel played professional football until he was 46. In addition to numerous engagements with less prominent clubs in the hinterland of Paraguay, he also played in 1987 with the top Chilean club CD O'Higgins .

The highlight of Eugenio Morel's career was winning the Copa America in 1979 with the Paraguayan national team . In this only second and so far last title win Paraguay in this competition, he scored four goals and was the top scorer together with the Chilean Jorge Peredo . He scored two of his goals in the three finals against Chile , although his fallback goal in the semi-final second leg against Brazil is generally considered more memorable. Morel made 13 appearances for Paraguay.

In later years Eugenio Morel worked as a trainer, especially in the youth field.

Eugenio Morel has five sons, one of whom Claudio Morel also had a career in football. In addition to great successes at club level in Argentina with San Lorenzo and CA Boca Juniors, he was also allowed to take part in the 2010 World Cup with Paraguay .
