Beginnings of his career

He then moved to the Israeli club Bne Jehuda , which he left after a season to join Yverdon-Sport FC in the second-highest Swiss league. Gohouri spent two and a half years in Yverdon during which he was regularly used as a striker. Then he was loaned to FC Bologna for half a year , but he was not used. He then moved back to the Swiss Challenge League for the Liechtenstein club FC Vaduz , for which he played his first international games.

Breakthrough with the Young Boys

In September 2005 the BSC Young Boys offered the 1.90-meter-tall defensive all-rounder a four-year contract. Gohouri played his first game for the Young Boys on October 23, 2005 in the Swiss Cup against FC La Chaux-de-Fonds . He had his first goal in his second league game against FC Schaffhausen . He played a total of 46 competitive games in which he scored eight goals. One of his most important goals is his goal on August 20, 2006 in the game against FC Aarau , which the Young Boys won 1-0. Steve Gohouri (2008)

Borussia Monchengladbach

After 15 months, Gohouri moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in January 2007 , where he was under contract until December 2009. He lost his regular place in the meantime in October 2007 when he was seen partying in a Cologne discotheque with teammate Soumaila Coulibaly before the game against 1. FC Köln and this was taken up by the tabloid media as a "disco affair". It took until mid-February 2008 before he was nominated by the coach for the game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 and promoted to the team. He was also used in defense in the following games. In September 2008 Gohouri was banished from coach Jos Luhukay to the amateurs of Borussia Mönchengladbach for two weeks after missing several appointments with the medical department . In June 2009, the club announced that Gohouri was no longer part of the professional squad and that he could look for a new club despite an ongoing contract. On December 22, 2009, his contract was terminated.

Wigan Athletic

On January 12, 2010, Gohouri signed - according to the receiving club, initially as part of a loan deal - a contract initially limited to June 30, 2010 with the Premier League club Wigan Athletic , which was extended by two years in May 2010. On May 3, 2010, Gohouri scored his first goal for Wigan with an overhead kick . It was the goal to 2: 2, which resulted in relegation for the opponent Hull City . The Ivorian played 42 league games (two goals) for the English and also came to an appearance in the FA and League Cup.

Wandering years

After another station in Israel at Maccabi Tel Aviv , Gohouri joined the Greek first division club Skoda Xanthi in 2013 . After being out of a club for over a year, he signed a contract with German third division club FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in October 2014, which was valid until the end of the year . The contract was extended until the end of the 2014/15 season. The again contractless Gohouri joined the relegation-threatened South-West regional league TSV Steinbach in early December 2015, initially until the end of the season .
