  • Bogotá / Colombia : President Juan Manuel Santos announced that a team of international experts from the National Archaeological Institute and the Colombian Navy had already used ultrasound to detect the wreck of the Spanish galleon San José, which sank 307 years ago, on November 27, 2015 near the Barú peninsula off Cartagena discovered and identified beyond doubt. It is announced that a museum is to be built in Cartagena to display the loaded treasure after it has been recovered.
  • N'Djamena / Chad : At least 30 people are killed and around 80 others injured in three suicide attacks on the market in Loulou Fou on the small island of Koulfoua in Lake Chad . It is believed that the terrorist militia Boko Haram is responsible for the attacks.

  • Astana / Kazakhstan : With the former Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov , a high-ranking politician is sentenced to prison for the first time in corruption proceedings. Akhmetov, on the other hand, protests his innocence.
  • Berlin / Germany : The feature film Ewige Jugend by the Italian director Paolo Sorrentino is recognized as the best European film at the 28th European Film Prize.
  • Geneva / Switzerland : The Large Hadron Collider ( German  Large Hadron storage ring ) Watch researchers for the first time a violation of the principle of the physical superposition when two photons instead of penetrating each other collide. Werner Heisenberg and Hans Euler described this phenomenon in theory in 1936.
  • Paris / France : At the end of the UN climate conference in Paris , the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius announces the agreement on a new climate protection agreement in which almost all countries of the world are participating for the first time.
  • Riyadh / Saudi Arabia : For the first time, women are also allowed to vote in Saudi municipal council elections. Saudi Arabia is the last country in the world to introduce women's suffrage. A total of 17 women are elected to various municipal councils, including in Riyadh, Jeddah and Mecca . However, the municipal councils have little political influence at the local level, and a third of the members are determined by the government. These local councils are the only elected bodies in the absolute monarchy .

  • Chautara / Nepal : After the severe earthquake in April 2015 , the supply situation for the earthquake victims is catastrophic. With the onset of winter, many people are now threatened with cold death. A blockade on the border with India makes international aid more difficult.
  • Deir ez-Zor / Syria : The terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) succeeds in capturing an industrial area in the eastern Syrian province that had previously been held by troops loyal to the regime. At least 26 people loyal to the regime and twelve IS fighters were killed. Previously, spokesmen for the coalition fighting against IS in central Iraq's Ramadi reported progress in liberating the city, which has been under terrorist control since May 2015.
  • Jazan / Saudi Arabia : A fire in Jazan General Hospital kills 31 people and injures at least 107.

  • Damascus / Syria : An agreement negotiated through the mediation of the United Nations between the Syrian government under Bashar al-Assad and the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) enables a total of more than 3,500 armed men and civilians to withdraw from the southern districts and to the IS controlled areas to be brought. This agreement should end the presence of IS and other Islamists in the capital.
  • Duma / Syria: The leader of the Saudi Arabia- backed Islamist rebel organization Jaish al-Islam , Zahran Alloush , is killed in an alleged Russian air strike near the town of Otaya, south of the Duma . Alloush - also the military chief of the Islamic Front - was released from Sednaya prison near Damascus in 2011 under an amnesty by the Syrian government.
  • Guiyang / China : The 1130-meter-long Qingshui Bridge in the Chinese province of Guizhou is officially put into operation and shortens the distance between the provincial capital Guiyang and the county town of Weng'an . With a height of 406 meters, it is one of the highest bridges in the world.

  • Belgrade / Serbia : The Serbian Interior Minister Nebojša Stefanović explains that 79 people were arrested in raids for money laundering, bribery, forgery and abuse of office, including several mayors and entrepreneurs. According to the daily Blic, the former Minister of Commerce Slobodan Milosavljević is among those arrested .

  • Ramadi / Iraq : The Iraqi army announces that with the capture of the government building, the last retreat of the IS fell and the provincial capital was thus completely liberated. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi speaks of a "great victory" for his units. The offensive launched to finally recapture the city started on December 22, 2015 with the support of international air strikes .
