Irakli Gharibashvili ( Georgian ირაკლი ღარიბაშვილი , Russian Ира́клий Тариелович Гарибашвили , Iraklij Tarielowitsch Garibashvili ; born June 28, 1982 in Tbilisi , then Georgian SSR ) is a Georgian politician .

Career

Gharibashvili studied international relations at the State University of Tbilisi and from 2002 to 2004 at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne . He received his master's degree from Tbilisi State University in 2005. From 2004 he held various positions at the Cartu Group of the Georgian entrepreneur Bidsina Ivanishvili .

In 2006, Gharibashvili was the personal representative of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of San Marino in Georgia. In 2012 he was one of the founding members of the future ruling party " Georgian Dream ".

Gharibaschwili was after the parliamentary elections in Georgia in 2012 of 25 October 2012 to 17 November 2013 Interior Minister of Georgia . He was Prime Minister from November 20, 2013 to December 24, 2015. The day before, he had surprisingly announced his resignation without giving any reason.

He has been Georgia's defense minister since September 8, 2019 after having worked in the private sector in the meantime.

Gharibashvili is married and has two children. In addition to his native Georgian, he also speaks English, French and Russian.
