The Strategic Air Transport Base Termez (StratLTStp) of the German Armed Forces was located in Termiz in southern Uzbekistan from February 18, 2002 to December 20, 2015 . The Bundeswehr uses the Russian name of the city.

Until December 2014 he was subordinate to the commodore of the operational squadron Mazar-e Sharif , and from January to December 2015 he was subordinate to the commodore of the operational squadron Resolute Support in Mazar-e Sharif in Afghanistan.

All troop transports for the German ISAF contingent were handled here under an ISAF mandate . (See also: German participation in the war in Afghanistan ) The reason for this stop-over was safety aspects: Since the Airbus A310 was not equipped with missile defense systems, there was a change to appropriately equipped Transall C-160 transport aircraft or Sikorsky CH-53 GS transport helicopter.

Under the new mandate of Resolute Support , the StratLTStp demonstrated the ability to reactivate, which guaranteed to be able to resume flight operations within seven days.

In October 2015, the Bundeswehr announced that it would close the base and that any remaining personnel and material would be relocated by the end of the year.

Until December 2015, Termez acted as a “safe haven” in order to be able to quickly evacuate all German soldiers from the operational area in Afghanistan in an emergency.

On December 20, 2015, the strategic air transport base was closed by the last commander, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Blätte.
