Its members include both social democratic and more left-wing parties such as the Acción Democrática , Alianza Bravo Pueblo , La Causa Radical , Un Nuevo Tiempo , Avanzada Progresista , Movimiento Progresista de Venezuela and Voluntad Popular , as well as Christian Democratic or liberal parties of the more right-wing spectrum such as COPEI , Vente Venezuela , Proyecto Venezuela and Primero Justicia . Management structure

On February 17, 2017, the MUD decided to replace the post of Secretary General with an Operational Political Committee . This committee consists of representatives of the nine largest parties in the alliance: Primero Justicia , Acción Democrática , Un Nuevo Tiempo , Voluntad Popular , Alianza Bravo Pueblo , Avanzada Progresista , Movimiento Progresista de Venezuela , La Causa Radical and Vente Venezuela . From 2014 to the beginning of 2017, the general secretary of the MUD was Jesús Torrealba , a former communist.

Election participation and results

In the 2010 parliamentary elections , the alliance won 47.2% of the vote (just behind the 48.3% of the ruling PSUV ), but due to the electoral system and the design of the constituencies, only 64 of the 165 seats in the unicameral parliament.

Henrique Capriles (Primero Justicia) was a candidate for the electoral alliance in the presidential elections in 2012 and 2013 , but was defeated by Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro, respectively. In 2013 the defeat turned out to be extremely narrow (50.8 to 49%), the MUD accused of election fraud and did not recognize the result.

In the general election in 2015 , the Alliance according to preliminary results won 109 seats - this was considered a landslide victory.
