La Causa Radical ( La Causa Я or LCR ; "the radical thing") is a left-wing political party in Venezuela that was founded in 1971 by Alfredo Maneiro, among others. It emerged after the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) split off from the Communist Party by members for whom these parties were too moderate.
history
Initially, the party pursued an independent, Marxist policy, but initially supported Hugo Chávez's attempted coup in 1992, and in 1996 and 1997 the Christian Democratic COPEI and MAS. In 1997, this led to the secession of the supporters of the presidential candidate Hugo Chávez, who then founded Patria Para Todos . After the left split, the party oriented itself further to the right programmatically.
In the parliamentary elections in 2000 she won four of the 165 seats. In the 2002 elections, she ran as part of the Coordinadora Democrática ( Democratic Coordination ), a broad spectrum of parties or NGOs whose common denominator is the opposition to Hugo Chávez. This platform was closed in 2004. In the 2005 parliamentary elections, the LCR did not run.
For the 2006 elections, the LCR supported Manuel Rosales , the opposition candidate. In 2008, the LCR received less than 1 percent of the vote nationwide in regional elections.
In the 2015 parliamentary election , Causa R received four seats in the National Assembly as part of the victorious opposition alliance Mesa de la Unidad Democrática (MUD).
