• Kazan / Russia : The 16th FINA World Championships the FINA going to end. The most successful nation is the People's Republic of China with 35 medals. In classic pool swimming , the German Marco Koch wins the gold medal over the 200 m breaststroke . A total of seven medals go to Germany.
• Port-au-Prince / Haiti : The parliamentary and senate elections in Haiti lead to riots in the course of which three people are killed. Six polling stations have to close earlier.

• Istanbul / Turkey : Four people are killed and at least ten others are injured in a bomb attack and a subsequent attack on a police station in the Istanbul suburb of Sultanbeyli . In another attack on the US consulate , a female member of the left-wing extremist terrorist organization DHKP-C is arrested. Four people died in attacks in the Şırnak province in southeastern Turkey.
