• Paris / France : At the start of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 21), over 150 heads of state and government meet. To begin with, they commemorate the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris and express their solidarity with the host country.
• Washington, DC / United States : The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announces that it will add the currency of the People's Republic of China , renminbi (also known as yuan), to the currency basket from October 1, 2016, along with the US dollar , euro , yen and British pound as the fifth world reserve currency for Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). IMF Director Christine Lagarde speaks of a "milestone in the integration of the Chinese economy into the global financial system".
