- Ankara / Turkey : In the early parliamentary elections in Turkey , the Justice and Recovery Party (AKP), with Ahmet Davutoğlu and which was founded by today's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , can win back an absolute majority of parliamentary seats. - Dublin / Ireland : In the country with a Catholic majority, same-sex marriages can now be concluded. Five months ago, Irish voters voted in a referendum to include “marriage for all” in the constitution .
- Mogadishu / Somalia : 15 people are killed in a terrorist attack by the Islamist Al-Shabaab militia on the Sahafi hotel . Former military spokesman General Abdikarim Yousuf Dhaga Badan, who is said to have been responsible for the army's offensive against Al-Shabaab in 2011, is said to have been among the dead.

- Washington, DC / United States : The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announces that it will add the currency of the People's Republic of China , renminbi (also known as yuan), to the currency basket from October 1, 2016, along with the US dollar , euro , yen and British pound as the fifth world reserve currency for Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). IMF Director Christine Lagarde speaks of a "milestone in the integration of the Chinese economy into the global financial system".
