Monique Schwitter (born March 2, 1972 in Zurich ) is a Swiss writer and actress .

Life

From 1993 to 1997 Schwitter studied theater directing and acting at the Salzburg Mozarteum . She then worked as an actress at the Schauspielhaus Zurich , the Schauspiel Frankfurt and from 2000 to 2004 at the Schauspielhaus Graz . From 2005 to 2010 she was part of the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. During this time she also worked as a reciter, radio and dubbing speaker and as a director, particularly of literary programs about Peter Handke , Ernst Jandl , Raymond Queneau and Sarah Kane, among others . At the Deutsches Schauspielhaus she also ran her own literary salon, the “Damensalon”, and appeared as a blues singer. As an actress, she has appeared at numerous theater festivals such as the Mülheimer Theatertage (1999), “Reich und Famous” in Berlin (2001), “Theater der Welt” in Stuttgart (2005), Wiener Festwochen (2006), Salzburg Festival (2006), «Theaterformen» in Hanover (2007) and Berlin Theatertreffen (2008).

From 2002 she published her own texts, prose pieces and stories, initially in various literary magazines, especially in the manuscripts , after their editor Alfred Kolleritsch became aware of them. In 2005 she published her first volume of short stories when it snows at the crocodile , for which she received the Robert Walser Prize in 2006 and the Schiller Foundation Prize. In 2008 the theater play Himmels-W was commissioned for the Lucerne Theater and premiered on April 3, 2008. In the same year she took part in a Max Frisch conference at the University of Brussels. Her first novel, Ears Have No Lids , was also published in 2008 and was translated into Chinese in 2010 and presented at the Shanghai Expo. In 2011 the story volume Goldfish Memory followed . In 2010 she decided to end her career as an actress and from now on work as a freelance writer.

At the invitation of Hildegard Elisabeth Keller , Monique Schwitter took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2015. Her novel Eins im Andern was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2015 and was awarded the Swiss Book Prize 2015. The story revolves around a woman around 40 who, through Internet research, finds out that her first love killed herself years ago. Then she deals with her love biography based on twelve men. She was also one of the winners of the 2016 Swiss Literature Prize .

Monique Schwitter lives with her husband and two sons (eight and six years old (2018)) in Hamburg .

In this literary salon Monique Schwitter presented her favorite literature every first Wednesday of the month from March 2006 to July 2008 in the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.
