Inge Stephan

Inge Stephan (* 1944 in Itzehoe ) is a German literary scholar .

Life

She studied German, history, philosophy, politics and education in Hamburg and Clermont-Ferrand (1964–1971), sponsored by the German National Academic Foundation , research assistant at the Hamburg Klopstock edition (1965–1969), doctorate (1971) and 1st and 2nd state examination (1972/74) in Hamburg, legal clerkship and lecturer at the history department of the University of Hamburg, from 1974 assistant at the literary studies department of the University of Hamburg, from 1983 professor at the University of Hamburg, from 1994 professor at the Humboldt University Berlin , numerous visiting professorships in the USA, Japan and China.

Her research focuses on female literary and cultural traditions, images of women and men , gender constructions in literature from the 18th century to the present day, as well as feminist theory and current gender research.
