Kronenhalle restaurant

The Kronenhalle is a restaurant at Rämistrasse 4 at Bellevue in Zurich .

history

In 1924, the "Hotel de la Couronne" at Bellevue in Zurich was taken over by Hulda and Gottlieb Zumsteg and opened as the "Kronenhalle Restaurant". The couple served their guests a mixture of Swiss, Bavarian and classic dishes. The best known are the Zürcher Geschnetzelte , the Wiener Schnitzel , the Chateaubriand and the Mousse au Chocolat .

The Zumstegs made the restaurant one of the first in the city of Zurich. Her son Gustav Zumsteg's passion for art , who gradually had his pictures hung up in the restaurant, contributed to further fame.

Since the death of Gustav Zumsteg in 2005, the restaurant has been run by a foundation . In 2005, Andreas Honegger described the “Kronenhalle” in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung as “still a flagship among Zurich's restaurants” if “you only take it all in all ”.

building

The building at Rämistrasse 2/4 was built by the architect Daniel Pfister between 1841 and 1842 on behalf of the innkeeper Heinrich Leuthold . At that time it was a connected Biedermeier apartment building with a Zur Krone branch (Limmatquai 4). In 1861/1863 the house was sold to Friedrich Weinmann. He divided it into two houses, today's Rämistrasse 2 and 4. He had building no. 4 converted into the “Café Restaurant and Beer Hall to the Kronenhalle”, for which a mezzanine was added. The building was extended between 1982 and 1984.
