Confirmed for the fifth time in the presidency: Yoweri Museveni
  • Brussels / Belgium : Start of the two-day summit of the European Council chaired by Donald Tusk . The focus is on the planned referendum by the British on whether the United Kingdom should remain in the European Union (EU) and advice on decisions taken and planned to find a solution to the ongoing refugee crisis .
  • Clausnitz / Germany : There are massive xenophobic riots against refugees in the eastern German district .
  • Kampala / Uganda : Presidential and parliamentary elections in Uganda. Protesters clash with police officers during the elections. Three days after the election with numerous irregularities, President Yoweri Museveni was re-elected for the fifth time with 61 percent of the vote.
  • Kintampo / Ghana : 61 people die and 25 others are injured in a collision between an intercity bus operated by the state-owned Metro Mass Transit Bus and a truck.
  • Shanghai / China : After the merger of the state-owned large shipping companies COSCO and the China Shipping Group (with the subsidiary CSCL ) to form the China Cosco Shipping Corporation (COSCOCS), it starts operations with around 180,000 employees and a fleet of 830 ships.

  • Brussels / Belgium : The permanent NATO task force Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) begins its planned mission for the reconnaissance, surveillance and observation of boat and ship movements in the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey. The mission is to cooperate with the EU Frontex mission “Poseidon Sea” and curb the uncontrolled flow of refugees towards Europe.
  • Meme / Cameroon : Two suicide bombers kill 24 people and injure another 112 people in a vegetable market near the border with Nigeria . It is believed that the perpetrators belonged to the terrorist group Boko Haram .
  • Sabrata / Libya : US Air Force F-15E fighter planes bomb a training camp of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) around 70 kilometers west of Tripoli , killing at least 40 people. The attack is considered the first preventive measure to prevent the Islamists from spreading further in the region, which is also affected by civil war . Two officials from the Serbian embassy who were abducted in November 2015 also died in the attack .

  • Damascus / Syria : At least 31 people died in a series of attacks with a car bomb and two suicide bombers in Sayyidah Zaynab, around ten kilometers south of the capital.
  • Homs / Syria: The explosion of two car bombs, at least 57 people in mainly of Alawites killed residential district Sahraa. During the Syrian civil war , the city was a stronghold of the Free Syrian Army until 2014 , and has since been largely controlled by government troops again .
  • La Paz / Bolivia : The referendum on the constitutional amendment, which is supposed to allow President Evo Morales ( MAS ) to have another term of office beyond the next election in 2019, fails.
  • Moroni / Comoros : In the presidential elections none of the candidates achieve an absolute majority, so a second ballot will be necessary. Vice President Mohamed Ali Soilihi faces the governor of the state of Grande Comore , Mouigni Baraka.
  • Niamey / Niger : In the presidential elections , President Mahamadou Issoufou ( PNDS-Tarayya ) is aiming for a second five-year term in office, while his biggest opposition candidate, the country's former Prime Minister, Hama Amadou ( MODEN-FA Lumana Africa ), is in custody. The parliamentary elections will also take place at the same time .
  • Skopje / Macedonia : Macedonia also prohibits Afghan refugees from entering and passing through Serbia . Only refugees from the civil war states of Syria and Iraq are allowed to cross the border.
  • Suva / Fiji : The strongest hurricane ever measured over Fiji, Cyclone Winston , crosses the Pacific island nation and causes severe devastation there. At least 42 people die in Fiji. Other South Pacific nations such as Tonga and Niue will also be badly hit by the cyclone.

  • Harare / Zimbabwe : The Zimbabwean government confiscates seven diamond mines in the eastern Marange diamond fields . The licenses of Marange Resources , Anjin Investments Ltd. , Diamond Mining Company , Gyn Nyame Resources , Jinan Mining Ltd. , Kusena Diamonds and the Mbada Diamonds had expired. The new operator is a state-owned company founded just a month ago.

  • Rabat / Morocco : Morocco and Algeria are willing to cooperate to re- admit asylum seekers from these countries who have been rejected in Germany and who pretended to be Syrian refugees and have no prospect of remaining.
