Severstal ( Russian Северста́ль , in German Nordstahl) is a Russian metallurgy company headquartered in Cherepovets . The company is listed in the RTS Index and on the London Stock Exchange. Severstal is the second largest steel producer in Russia and No. 15 in the world. According to the company, BMW , Ford and Mercedes are among its largest customers.
Severstal emerged from the Tscherepowezer iron and steel works founded in 1955 . During the privatization of Russian state-owned companies in 1993, Alexei Mordashov , the company’s finance director at the time, acquired a large part of the company's shares.
