X5 Retail Group is one of the leading Russian multi-format food retailers . The group manages the supermarkets of several retail chains: " Pyatjorochka " neighborhood stores , " Perekrjostok " supermarkets and " Carousel " hypermarkets .
The company's shares are listed as depository receipts on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and the Moscow Stock Exchange (MCX).
history
The company was founded in 2006 through the merger of the retail chains "Pjatjorochka" and "Perekrjostok". During the merger, the combined company was given the option to purchase the “Karussell” hypermarket chain and implemented this option in 2008.
The other largest purchases include over 660 “ Kopeika ” stores in 2010.
Shareholder structure
The shareholder structure of X5 is as follows: CTF Holdings SA (a structure of Alfa Group ) owns 47.86%, Intertrust Trustees Ltd (Axon Trust) 11.43%, the directors of X5 0.06%, treasury shares are 0, 01%, and shareholders with shares below 3% own 40.63% of the shares.
Managing directors
In 2015, Stephan DuCharme took over the management of the X5 supervisory board, who had already been an independent director on the supervisory board from 2008–2012 before he assumed the position of managing director.
Igor Shekhterman has held the position of Managing Director since November 2015.

"Pyatjorochka"
"Pjatjorochka" is about a retail chain with grocery stores in the "neighborhood shop" format. The chain's 12,000th store opened in 2018.
"Perekrjostok"
"Perekrjostok" is a retail chain with grocery stores in supermarket format. This chain is the largest in Russia. The chain’s 600th supermarket opened in October 2017.
"Carousel"
The “Carousel” retail chain includes grocery stores in hypermarket format. As of December 31, 2019, this chain had 91 hypermarkets.

Partnership projects
The program for the acquisition of sub-tenants for X5's stores was launched in 2013: at the end of 2017, 5,500 private companies opened over 29,000 of their own sales outlets on the chains' premises. Most partners develop their business in cooperation with "Pyatjorotschka" retail chain: 5,000 sub-tenants occupy a total of 8% of the entire retail space of this chain, including over 3,000 farmers, small and medium-sized companies that provide food, goods for children or various services in the back check area as well offer within the stores in shop-in-shop format.
logistics
The strategic project for the separation of the logistics for the retail chain from Х5 to supply “neighborhood shops” and separate supplies for supermarkets and hypermarkets began in 2013.
As of December 31, 2019, Х5 was managing 42 distribution centers with a total area of 1.1 million square meters - 30 of which are responsible for “Pyatjorochka” retail chains and 12 for large-format retail chains such as “Perekrjostok” and “Karussell”.
X5 Retail Group's vehicle fleet consists of 4,124 of its own trucks (as of December 31, 2019).
