Finally, it was decided to expand into retail . In 1998 Galizki therefore opened the first supermarket under the name "Magnit".

Since then the company has expanded massively. At the end of 2005 Magnit was already operating over 1,500 supermarkets across Russia. Soon after, the construction of large hypermarkets began . Since 2010, drug stores have also been opened under the name “Magnit-Kosmetik”. Today Magnit is not only one of the largest retail chains in Russia, but also one of the largest Russian companies. According to The Economist , Magnit had quarterly sales of $ 4.3 billion in 2013. So far Magnit has mainly been active in the European part of Russia.

At the beginning of 2018, Galizki sold his shares in Magnit to the state-owned banking group VTB . In front of the company headquarters employees celebrated him with shouts of "Thank you, thank you".
