Kopeika ( Russian Копейка , in German " Kopeke ") is a Russian retail chain. Similar to the Magnit and Pjatjorotschka chains , it is one of the country's leading discount grocery stores .

Kopeika was founded in Moscow in 1998 . At that time it was the first discount store in Russia to be modeled on chains such as Aldi or Lidl . In terms of corporate form, Kopeika is a stock corporation ; 100 percent of the shares are owned by the billionaire and head of the Uralsib credit institution Nikolai Tsvetskov . In June 2007 there were a total of 380 Kopeika stores in around 20 regions of Russia; the company's 2006 revenue was $ 980 million. Similar to the other leading Russian food discounters, most of Kopeika’s stores are run on a franchise basis.
