history

Nordgold was initially created under the name Severstal Gold as a subsidiary of the Russian steel producer Severstal , which also belongs to Mordaschow.

In early 2007 Severstal acquired the Suzdal and Sherek mines in Kazakhstan, as well as the Aprelkowo and Neryungri mines in Russia. Other mines - Balashal (Kazakhstan), Irokinda, Sun-Cholba and Beresitowi (Russia), Taparko and Bissa (Burkina Faso) - were acquired in 2008. The Lefa mine in Guinea was added at the beginning of 2011. The Bissa mine started production in 2013.

Nordgold was then spun off from Severstal as a public company in 2012 and listed on the London Stock Exchange.
