Carsten Stawitzki (born March 29, 1966 in Heidelberg ) is a Vice Admiral of the German Navy and Head of the Equipment Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense .

Military career

Training and first uses

Stawitzki completed his training with Crew VII / 85 . After studying electrical engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg , he completed the A course in ship technology at the Technical Naval School in Kiel from 1990 to 1992 . From 1992 to 1994, Stawitzki was deployed as a ship technology officer in the 1st  submarine squadron in Eckernförde . In 1994 he completed the B course in ship technology, and then from 1994 to 1996 he was again employed in Eckernförde as head of the system support group in the 3rd submarine squadron. 1996 to 1998 he was employed as a propulsion officer for the Karlsruhe frigate .

Service as a staff officer

From 1998 to 2000, Stawitzki took part in the 40th admiralty staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . His first use as a staff officer led him to Brussels . From 2000 to 2002 he was employed as a staff officer for standardization, multinational equipment and logistics, infrastructure, budget and Defense Capabilities Initiative for the German military representative to NATO and the EU , Lieutenant General Klaus Wiesmann. From 2002 to 2004 Stawitzki served as a ship technology officer on the frigate Cologne . In 2005, he was employed again at the command academy of the German Armed Forces, as a lecturer in maritime and joint armed forces logistics in the marine department. From 2005 to 2006, Stawitzki was transferred to the command staff of the armed forces (Staff Department VI - Bundeswehr Planning) at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . From 2006 to 2008 he served in staff department IV - logistics. This was followed from 2008 to 2010 as a deputy adjutant to the Federal Minister of Defense ( Franz Josef Jung and Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg ) and from 2010 to 2013 as an adjutant to Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière . During this time there was also a foreign assignment at ISAF , where Stawitzki was deployed from February to June 2013 as deputy chief of staff for support tasks at RC NORTH.

Service as an admiral

From July 1, 2013 to August 29, 2016, Stawitzki was in command of the Mürwik Naval School .

From September 1, 2016, Stawitzki succeeded Achim Lidsba as commander of the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . At this post, he was promoted to rear admiral . On May 9, 2018, he handed over this command to Brigadier General Oliver Kohl in order to succeed Lieutenant General Benedikt Zimmer as Head of the Equipment Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense, which was connected with the promotion to Vice Admiral .
