Wilhelm Tobias Abry

Louis Hermann Wilhelm Tobias Abry (born August 8, 1968 in Helmstedt ) is a flotilla admiral of the German Navy and has been in command of the Mürwik Naval School since May 18, 2018 . In addition, since January 16, 2020, he has been the deputy commander of the EU naval mission EUNAVFOR ATALANTA at the headquarters in Rota, Spain .

Military career

Abry joined the (then) German Navy in 1988 with Crew VII / 88 . He completed his training as a naval officer, including a degree in political science at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich . This was followed by several uses as a boat operations officer and officer on watch on speedboats . From 1997 to 1999 Abry was adjutant to the heads of office in the (now dissolved) naval office , the rear admirals Hans Lüssow , and later Frank Ropers . This was followed by a position as commander on the Puma speedboat , with which he was deployed abroad in 2002 in Operation Enduring Freedom in the Horn of Africa . As the first officer of the frigate Karlsruhe , he was deployed again in Operation Enduring Freedom from March to September 2005. This was followed by assignments as a consultant at the Federal Ministry of Defense and at the NATO International Military Staff in Brussels ( Belgium ). In 2011 Abry was again on a foreign mission as commander of the Lower Saxony frigate as part of the EU naval mission EUNAVFOR ATALANTA . This was followed by a position as Assistant Chief of Staff of Staff Joint Assessment at the Joint Force Command Brunssum of NATO in Brunssum, the Netherlands . In 2014/15, Abry was chief of staff at EUNAVFOR ATALANTA on a foreign mission again as Chief of Staff of Operation Flotilla 2 . From 2016 to 2018 he was head of the central tasks department in the office of the inspector general of the Bundeswehr, General Volker Wieker .

Service as an admiral

Since May 18, 2018 Abry, replacing Commodore Kay-Achim Schönbach , commander of the Naval Academy Mürwik. On this post he was promoted to Flotilla Admiral in April 2019 .
