Waldemar Winther (born June 12, 1897 in Gießen ; † April 6, 1983 in Bremen ) was a German naval officer, most recently rear admiral in the navy .

Life

Winther joined the Imperial Navy as a war volunteer . The nautical training began in April 1915 on the SMS Freya . From August 1915 to September 1918 he drove on the SMS König Albert . He then went through a two-month navigation course at the Mürwik Naval School . In the November Revolution he was made available to the 1st Marine Inspectorate. In the autumn of 1919 he was part of the storm battalion under Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière for almost a month . He then served five months in the Loewenfeld Marine Brigade .

From May 1, 1920 he served in the ship master division of the Baltic Sea. He spent a good two months (as before with Werner Scheer ) as an orderly officer with the staff of the commander of the land forces of the Baltic Sea. In autumn 1921 he was at the naval school in Kiel-Wik . On December 16, 1921, he came to Stralsund as an intelligence officer. From April to October 1923 he was flag lieutenant in command of the Baltic Sea Forces. After almost a year and a half, he became an officer on watch on the liner Hanover . From April 1925 to February 1927 he was an adjutant at the Reichsmarinewerft Wilhelmshaven . From March 1, 1927 to September 25, 1928 he was in command of M 134 . After two years on the cruiser Emden , he came to teach at the Mürwik naval school. In June 1932 he was transferred to Military District II (Stettin) as a liaison officer. In the Reichswehr Ministry he saw the formation of the navy .

From September 30, 1935 to October 26, 1937 he served as a navigational officer on the Cologne . He then spent five years as an adjutant with the staff of the North Sea Naval Station . From February 25, 1943 to April 16, 1944 he was head of the 1st Security Division .

September 25, 1942 to February 18, 1943 in command of Leipzig . As rear admiral , he was in command of the Mürwik Naval School from April 17, 1944 to September 24, 1944 . Afterwards as an inspector, he was taken prisoner by the British on July 22, 1945 . He was released on April 17, 1947.
